Walgreens Huggies deal illustrated

walgreenhuggiesreward.gif   I hit Walgreens today early since last week all the cleaning products I wanted were sold out early in the week.  I also wanted to give you a visual and confirmation of successes.  The cashier warned me on the second transaction that "you won't get the fusion reward if you use a register reward" I said let's go ahead and see what happens. She was quite surprised when not one but THREE new rewards popped out.

The best news is yes the $5 off Huggies coupons works without any beeps or problems on non Gentle care - I got 2 natural fit diapers and 1 wipes. These were the first round of coupons that said ANY product the new ones that specify "diapers" may be different.   And I have not confirmed this but a number of people are reporting the Irish Spring reward is "rolling" meaning when you use it to buy a new Irish Spring you get another coupon for a free Irish Spring. May not last all week.

The only coupon that caused a "beep" was the second coffee mate $1.50 off because the system rang the first at $2.49 second at $0.00 but the cashier pushed it through. YMMV

Transaction 1 -  2 Huggies Jumbos $20 / 1 Huggies Wipes $6 / 1 Garnier Shampoo / 1 Garnier Conditioner / 1 Garnier gel /          2 Ajax / 2 Coffee Mate / 3 chocolate bunnies USED (3) $5 off Huggies printables / 1 Garnier Easy Saver coupon from March catalog - auto deducts $2 for EACH one / 3 - $1 off Garnier coupons / 2 - $1.50 coffee mate coupons / $1 for 2 in Ad Ajax coupon and .39 cent in ad candy coupon.  I also used an $8 Register Reward from Blink and a $1 register reward from Tide from last week.

Total due $ $6.35 of which $2.61 was tax    Got back a $10 register reward for the Huggies deal.

Transaction 2  1 Crest Pro Health / 1 Fusion Gamer razor / 1 Irish spring body wash/ 1 garnier shampoo / 1 garnier conditioner / 1 garnier gel.  I used $4 off Fusion / $1 off Crest / 3- $1 off Garnier and the Easy Saver Coupon for Garnier. I also used the $10 reward from transaciton 1.

Total due $2.75 of which $1.81 was tax.  I got back a $4 reward for the fusion, $1 reward for Crest and $4.49 free Irish spring body wash coupon.

TOTAL out of pocket expense $9.10 for everything + I got back $5 worth of register rewards and a free body wash. SWEET.

I hit WAGS today & did (pretty Close) your first transaction(minius the coffee mate). Thanks again for saving me a boat load of $. I am having a great time shopping with my coupons & saving money/getting items for free! I appreciate all of the leg work that you do for us! You are the best. Keep the deals coming.

p.s. The cashier @ Safeway congratulated me last week when I purchased 5 boxes of cereal for $2.75(that included tax). What a deal! Happy Monday! Hope to see you soon!

My cashier told me that the total had to be $25 AFTER the coupons as well. BUT it was still a good deal, about 14.5 cents per diaper (a mix: 2 pkgs. of 1, 1 pkg. of 4 and 1 of 5's once I go back and use my $10 for another pack.)

Still a big savings!!

Amy,
Sorry you had such a frustrating experience. The drugstore Game can be awesome but when it snags it is aggravating. The saddest part is the cashier was honestly trying to help you but many cashiers (if not most) don't understand how the system works because they don't coupon. They have seen Cats not print because people use the SAME rewards and assume that is the problem, they have seen cats not print because someone is one penny under the required purchase and so assume coupons are the problem. They are trying to head of customers getting angry. When Cats don't print it is usually because the machine is 1. out of paper 2. jammed 3. offline or 4. a upc was not correctly programmed into the promotion. When returning items you can get your coupons back but only if you do it immediately. Bring your reward with you to do the return they probably wont' ask for it but I'm not sure because I have only returned items when a reward DID NOT print. Don't give up -when deal hunting there are always some setbacks and deals that don't go just right. It takes some work and organization to save big money there really is no such thing as a free lunch or free diapers.

Neat-o! I didn't do as well as you but I managed to get 5 bags of diapers, 2 glade Sense and spray starter kits, 2 glade lasting impressions starter kits and 1 tube of Crest toothpaste for $27.35...about $85 worth of stuff w/out coupons or sales.
Walgreens Q

Hit Walgreens today for my diaper deal ... they were out of the wipes so I got three packs of gentle care diapers using the diaper specific $5 coupons. When I went to pay I tried to use my $8 blink RR from last week and the cashier insisted that the huggies RR would not come out if I used the $8 RR. Then he added up my total and it came out to under $25, including the coupons, obviously, and he insisted that the RR would not come out unless the total AFTER coupons was more than $25.
So I did what he said because I figure he knows ... and got the $10 RR while using two $5 diaper specific coupons in the process.
Now Im second guessing and mad that I spent more than I had to and now have RR that expire in a week that I have no plans for.
What happens if I return the diapers and try again? Obviously Ill loose the coupons (I can print more from a second computer in our house and have a friend print them for me) ... but what about the $10 RR? Do I need to give that back? How does that work?
And WHY would the cashier insist all of those things?
